3. News letter May 2009

May 2009

Greetings to Friends, Sponsors and Prayer Partners:

We are very excited about our children and their performance at school. Three of our pupils have achieved a top ten position out of 105 students in the class. The classes are overpopulated and it’s impossible for the teachers to do proper tutoring. We, on the other hand, appointed a teacher at Fathers House so she can give special attention to all of our children. Joyce, our teacher, comes in three times a week and if you ask my opinion, that is why the children get their good marks. Yes, of course the students work hard themselves.
Every quarter we give prizes in the house for those children that have worked hard. Now we have decided to take them to Victory Christian Children's Home- an adventure leadership centre. This camp is for corporate and team building events to teach people how to work as a team and to plan ahead to overcome certain obstacles. We took all ten of our boys on April 11th. What a bag full of laughter! Our girls were there on Saturday, May 9th.
Piet Uys heads up this organization. With years of experience in South Africa, he taught the children a few life changing skills. Here is Piet with all the girls and with Helen, the mother of Steka House.

Joshua, now 18 months old, went down the 60 foot swing without blinking an eye. Piet and I were amazed by this little boy’s bravery. We were wondering where fear started in our lives. Just before leaving the platform he even waved for us with a great smile.

Romans 8:15 For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption by which we cry, Abba, Father!

I am in training for my next fundraising trip in August to South Africa from Blantyre, Malawi. This year I will cycle 3,000 kilometers (1,864 miles.) My trip will take me through five African countries. I will start in Malawi then go through the northern part of Mozambique to enter Zambia at Katete. At Victoria Falls, my journey will take me to Zimbabwe, Botswana and then I'll end up in Pretoria, South Africa.

The fundraising trip will be for Africa Street Kids (ASK) and to start a building project. We are awaiting the land surveyor to value the property. This building project will be for the STEKA Foundation and all the children will be moved into the new premises. At this stage we are paying MK35, 000 (US $250) per month to rent our current property and we would like to see that money utilized for the children.

Once again, greetings to all and please keep us in your prayers.

Felix Starker, Co-Founder of ASK Ltd. and the Father's House.
